The Bard Kugel hernia patch is the first mesh designed to be used in an open, tension-free, preperitoneal inguinal hernia repair technique.
This minimally invasive, "near-sutureless", posterior repair is performed through a small incision, under local or regional anaesthesia.
With the Bard Kugel hernia patch you get a true preperitoneal repair that covers all three possible defects, and therefore minimizes the chance of recurrence.
The Bard Kugel hernia patch is constructed of a double layer of monofilament polypropylene. This construction creates a positioning pocket, which is used to guide the patch into proper placement. The patch also contains a patent protected "memory recoil ring". This ring allows the patch to spring open and maintain its shape during placement.
In addition to repairing the existing hernia, the Bard Kugel hernia patch also minimizes the possibility of a new hernia. The prosthesis covers the entire inguinal floor, minimizing the chance of a recurrence or new hernia through all three potential sites: the indirect, direct and femoral. The result of the Bard Kugel hernia patch is an open, preperitoneal repair, which offers all the benefits of a laparoscopic hernia repair, without the possible complications and added costs.
